There are numerous things and events that can take place that cause a residential or commercial fire. There are also several fire awareness steps that you can take to prevent fires from happening and safeguarding our property and you safe.

Here are just a few helpful fire safety tips that can help you avoid a fire:

- Ensure that appliances are turned off and/or unplugged after use and before leaving your home during an extended period of abscence as in a vacation scenario.

- When on vacation, have a trusted neighbor or family member look in on your property as a safeguard.

- Check smoke alarms on a regularly scheduled basis to ensure that they are in properly working condition and have working batteries in them.

-Ensure that heaters are not blocked and there is nothing flammable placed near them.

- If you have a chimney and/or wood burning fireplace in your home, inspect it annually before putting into use. Have this inspected by a professionally licensed service provider.

- Have an emergency plan and escape route in place for the entire family should an emergency occur.
