Beware of Frozen Pipes

Winter is on its way, especially here in the Midwest we never know what to expect when it comes to stepping outside. Winter in the Midwest can be sunny, rainy and breezy, but in most cases is freezing cold weather with a lot of snow. During this time of the year frozen pipes become the biggest repair.
It is never a good sign to have a frozen pipe, because they block water flow to outlets. The bigger problem is that when the water freezes in these pipes, it expands which means a lot of pressure is applied and the interior part of the pipe. In most situations with all the pressure being applied to the pipe, it can cause it to burst directing freezing water and ice into other building structures like drywall.
Always be cautious about your outside appliances and make sure the water is shut off outside and double check any pipes that are easy accessible.
